The safest way to play

Summer fun with kids

Warmer weather means lots of outdoor fun for kids of all ages. To keep your kids safe, develop a list of guidelines and let them know just how important their well-being is to you.
•    If you have a pool in your backyard, make it known that if the younger neighbor kids want to come swim, their parents need to come along. Small children should always be closely watched when playing in the water.
•    Refresh your children’s memories about interacting with adults they don’t know. Remember that scare tactics usually aren’t as effective as helping your kids develop a healthy awareness of possible dangers.
•    Do not push your child to ride a two-wheeled bike, do the monkey bars, swim in the deep end or jump off a diving board before they’re ready. Although you may be confident of your child’s strength and skill, their lack of assurance may lead to accidents and unnecessary fear.
Along with these safety tips, make sure your children are wearing waterproof sunscreen of at least SPF 30.
